Hp motherboard -disable on board video/nvidia geoforce 7100

My hard drive crashed so I replaced it with a new hard drive. As I was installing the recovery software, the video suddenly went blank? If I install a new video card, will the on board video automaticly disable itself? I just don't understand why the video suddenly went blank? I just don'twnt to buy a new video card and can't return it. Any help would be appriciated.

  1. some motherboards will automatically disable onboard graphics. others will require you to go through the bios and shut it off manually
  2. I should have mentioned that I can't see the bios because the screen is blank. Even if I hit F-10 to enter set-up,I can not see anything.
  3. I would try a cmos reset to reset settings to factory conditions. it will probably re-enable igpu
  4. Thanks, I will try a cmos reset. Hopefully it will reset to factory since I had to do the same with new hard drive.
    Thanks again.
