Laptop HDD question

Am upgrading a laptop with a 20Gb HDD, but which one, I dont know which one... my 2 options are;

Travelstar 20GN 20GB UDMA66
Fujitsu MHN 20.0GB UDMA100

kind of a dumb question, but, what interface do laptop hard drives use....
i am doubting that it is a 40 pin connector...
but if it is, then could i hook a laptop hard drive up to a normal ide interface in my desktop?
and have many hard drives in the space that on normal hard drive takes up?
just a thought.....
