The price increase for the 6850 is definetly worth it. Go for it if you can afford it.

But since it has two fans will I have to get a full atx mobo or a full tower? Right now I'm planning to buy a micro atx mobo and a mid tower

No you do not need a full atx board. Micro atx is the most common size nowadays. A midtower however might be needed. But you never mentioned what case you have. Say an antec300 will fit it fine.

i would base my purchase on noise, since that is something important to me.

Techpowerup always takes a noise measurement:

Based on that criteria, I would pick this card:
Sapphire HD 7770 Vapor-X 1 GB

As far as the performance chart, techpowerup says it's equal to 6850.

If your rig is already a hairdryer, then there's no point though...

This one is my current choice

@above are u sure it's on par with the 6850? According to most benchmarks, the 6850 is one lvl above the 7770 in terms of performance

you can read into the techpowerup chart however you want, but each tier tends to be about 10%.

That particular vapor-x card is a relatively recent overclocked model as the manufacturers tends to do, so maybe that makes up the percentage points to go up a tier.

Again, if noise is not a criteria for you, then just pick whatever card is cheapest...according to techpowerup chart the 6870 is the best performance/dollar.
