I had also decided on the Q17, but I'm now wavering due to the brightness adjustment issue. That may not be a deal killer, though, because Tom mentions brightness can be adjusted through some of the tertiary settings (at least on the digital version). If I decide to go for the Q, newegg.com still shows them to be available at $399 with free shipping.

There a couple of alternatives to the Q17. Run a web search for Datus F217 and Daewoo F217. Those two are the same monitor (in fact they are shown occasionally as Datus/Daewoo F217), and they appear to be identical to the Q17 analog. Pricing seems to be comparable, also.

But, the Viewsonic VA720 or VP171b is looking better all the time. I mean, if the Q17 and its variants are is such limited supply, it would probably be very difficult to get a warranty replacement if needed.
