I am building a gaming rig mostly for world of warcraft, however I would also like to be able to do some video editing. I do not want to spend more than 220ish on my cpu, I have been looking seriously at two cpus which would you go with?
I think the Core i5 is completely overkill and the Phenom isn't good enough for video editing now, a Core i3 3220 should satisfy your gaming needs & video editing if you plan to. Plus, if the 3220 isn't enough, could always upgrade later on.
I was going to use an i3 3220 for a cheaper gaming rig, and I put up a forum post asking if that would be enough for certain games. The answer I got was yes, for the short term. But what they said after was don't bother with it. Im no expert, but in my opinion and about 5-10 other peoples opinion if ur gonna spend $125 on a cpu only to buy a $220 cpu a year later, why not buy the $220 cpu now, and be future proof? Just something I think you should consider.
I get around 30-40 FPS at 1080 surprisingly. when i got this APU i didn't even think it would run anything past high but I was surprised. but you would want to get at least 8GB or ram because it doesn't have dedicated video ram.
If you're playing wow you'll want the i5 over the i3, in 25 man raids and 40 man bgs the i3 may chug along but the i5 will do fine. as for the phenom its not the worst choice since steamroller will be using am3+ so its not a dead end. whereas intel might be changing direction socket again soonish. but i would still take the intel route if money isnt a problem.
The A10 with its 7660d igpu should easily play wow on ultra, my old 9800gt did, and the ipgu compares similarly to it. the apu also should b able to play bf3 on low at 1080p at barely playable 30fps. For video editing a fx 6300 has the extra cores editing uses, plus it should easily play WoW lol for a gpu a 7770 or 650 gtx, 7850 or 660 gtx are more than enough
How is the i5 3570k treating you? I do have a microcenter about 2.5 hrs away not sure if its worth the drive for just that or not
well for a 5 hour round trip drive you should consider amazon prices vs gas you will use to save that money.
i came from a q6600 to this i5 3570k and it is a whole nother planet. i have this oc'd to 4.4ghz with minimal voltage increases and good temps. my fps in bf3 at 1920x1200 with a 58501gb card went from low 30's to 40 with everything on low to 50's-60 with v-sync on and most settings on high and ultra (besides AA)
everything is super snappy, editing photos in lr4 is so much faster, mergint to 32 bit hdr is much faster. basically, it kicks ass and i notice it in everything i do. i also came from 4gb ram to 16gb ram.
