Catalyst 12.6 causes artifacting.

Hello!
yesterday, I decided to upgrade drivers on my asus k53ta laptop to catalyst 12.6. during the install, the screen resolution randomly changed to the lowest setting, and then the whole screen filled with artifacts. the whole thing just sat there for 2 hours, with no change. luckily, windows restore fixed the issue. has anybody else had this issue, or know how to fix this issue?

I installed the same drivers with no problems. I would give it another try. As long as you know windows restore can fix the problem if it happens again

sounds good. maybe some of the bloatware on the laptop is screwing it up....

an update: using a spare hard drive, i reinstalles windows 7 (active processes went from 98 to 43) and attempted catalyst 12.7 beta drivers. they installed without a hitch. another website suggested that 12.6 and 12.7 dont like it if 12.3 or 12.4 are installed.....

Yes, you should always uninstall previous drivers before installing new drivers.

honestly i have little experience with ati drivers, how do i remove catalyst 12.4?

If you have downloaded the 12.6 drivers. Just open the .exe. It will then give you the option to uninstall your previous drivers. After that is done, just open up the 12.6 drivers again and install it.
