Dell DVD drive not working and showing zero memory for all the disks.although th

My dell inspiron N5050 's dvd drive is not working properly.after inserting the dvd in the drive,formating process is starting and the disk is showing zero memory although i know it can't erase any information from a cd.

Does it boot from a bootable CD/DVD? If that works, then a driver may be the issue; otherwise the drive is defective and there isn't much that you can do other than replace it (or clean it if it's dirty, but I've rarely seen that issue).
