I am planning to buy a new processor, the Athlon xp 2500 (Barton). According to Asus I need the following:

"Athlon XP 2500+(333 MHZ FSB)(Model 10)
PCB: 1.04* BIOS: 1011
*Only with a FSB333 sticker on south bridge. "

The BIOS is no problem, but what is meant by PCB? And how do I check if I have the 1.04 (version?).

I opened my computer but found no FSB333 sticker on the South Bridge. It just said: " VIA VT8235, 0232CD, 2IA3401321"

PCB is the motherboard. 1.04 is the version... look for v. 1.04 or ver. 1.04 or something like that... it could be on one of the edges or in the middle...

Ah, ok. I opened my computer again. It said 1.04. But still cant find that sticker. Do they really mean there is a sticker on the the small South Bridge?

yes theres a blue sticker that says 333 MHZ. Or somthimg similar. BUt the only a7v8x that i have seen them on are the gbl versions and the just releasted versions (which means anything after january).

DO you know there there are two types of the Barton CPUS One is 333 and the other is 266. Your board will run the 266 with out knowing whether your board has a sticker. and its $99 box with ground shipping or $92 oem with fedex.

Supporting AMD with your breakable stuff.

When you say the bios is no problem do you mean that your board came with that bios revision ? If that is the case ,your board supports bartons. Most of the a7v8x boards do.

Do you still have the box that the mobo came in? That will tell you if it supports 333 fsb. Even if you get stuck at 2400 its not so bad. They seem to handle higher fsb without much problem.
Silly Me I forgot to mention that with the 2400 you can change the multiplier and run the chip at 166 X 13 , so you will have a 2700.With your board the pci buss will be at 33 and the agp buss at 66.
