Pci-e x16 running at x16 and x4?

Im building a computer for a friend and on a low budget and im buying him this motherboard http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A77TD_PRO/ it says 2x pic-e one running at x16 and one at x4, can someone explain what the speed difference is in % and i plan to use crossfire can someone tell me if its worth using crossfire too? thank you

The % you lose in the 4x slot depends on what card you are using but around 5% on a mid range card. Crossfire is not worth using on a low budget build but not because of the slot. Also consider Intel Pentium gxxx series are better for a budget build than AM3.

It would be better to get a single more powerful card instead of crossfire with that mobo, less headaches.

my friend, he only has £85 to spend on mobo, cpu and ram, if you can recommend anything

Its about £10 over budget you could only get 2Gb RAM or get the Celeron G540 to go under but I don't recommend it.
