ok so i heard, dont know if it is true but, does the ivy bridge support sata 3 over the sandy bridge? im looking at getting either the I5 2500k or the 3570k
SATA/USB support isn't related to the CPU but rather the chipset. Intel 6 series chipsets natively support SATA3 but not USB3 (though many boards used a third-party USB3 chip). More recent 7 series chipsets natively feature both (and they're backwards compatible with second-gen CPUs like the i5-2500k)
