Fx 8120 Turned into Quad Core

If i were to take my FX 8120 and disable 4 cores and turn the 4 remaining cores up to around 4.2 GHz would it be faster for gaming?

  1. Yes it would be faster.
  2. Hi :)

It depends on the game...BF3 as an example which can use MORE than 4 cores would be slower..

    All the best Brett :)
  3. Windows has already updated the scheduler to load 4 opposing cores before loading the other 4 tied cores.

Aside from that very few bios out there even allow disabling 1/2 modules, disabling 2 modules = 4100, and no it would not be faster that way.

Just push all 8 to 4.2 ghz, most 8120s can hit 4.4 without any problems.
  4. Hypothetically, sure. In practice, not likely significant.
  5. Cool, thanks guys.

I'll check if the games that I play can utilize the 8 cores. Recently I played a HL2 mod that can only use 1 core.
