My Kingdom for a New gaming computer ($1500-$1800)

Approximate Purchase Date: Hoping to order the parts in about two weeks, when I close on my house I will have an actual address.

Budget Range: $1500-$1800 After Shipping, I have it on good word, from this forum, that $1500-$1800 is the sweet spot as far as best bang for your buck.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Hard core gaming(Far Cry 3, BF3, Starcraft 2, Witcher 2, Civ 5, Minecraft), internet surfing, listening to music, paying bills.

Are you buying a monitor: No, but am interested in a list of some really good gaming monitors( Non 3D, Not a fan of that), if I do decide to buy one or two in the next month or so. I am thinking hard about doing a double monitor setup

Parts to Upgrade: All

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, although I will probably buy it at the PX or NEX

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Probably Newegg and Amazon or PX/NEX.

Location: Good Ole Jacksonville, FL

Parts Preferences: Intel, most research I have seen seems to point to I5 for my gaming.

Overclocking: Not at first and only if it’s done via BIOS

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 something around that.

Additional Comments: I would like to give SSD a try. (e.g.: Need to have a window and lots of bling, I would like a quiet PC. Please also list specific software or games you're using)

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My Old computer was getting old and had been thinking of getting a new computer, then its HDD died. After a short grieving period I decided it was time to move on.

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts. Please do not post only links

All items are soft and completely open, I had happened upon them merely through research on Tomshardware.

Core i5-3570K - Best Bang for the buck for gaming

NZXT Phantom 410 (Red) - Thought it looked cool and was listed in an article on Toms for being a good case.

Thanks for the help,

This is a copy & paste from a previous build I posted today. Just switch out the case to whatever you like and if you need more hard drive space switch that out.

This build down below allows you to add another one of those cards later on in SLI. It also includes a factory over clocked GTX 670, and a 128GB SSD. That case includes an LED on/off switch.

A two monitor set-up is not really suitable for gaming (ok for things like video editing). Your natural eyeline ends up BETWEEN monitors. You really want one, or three.
The Asus monitors are quite good; the best are Dell. The 24" Dell U2410 is exceptional. A bit pricier than Asus, but worth the extra. They may, of course, be a slightly expensive option, if you are going to have 3.
It's certainly a nice build that Why_me has given. I hate to say it, as I'm a bit of an nVidia fan, but, if you are going to have 3 monitors (rather than one), it may be worth considering Radeon. They work quite well, with the high resolution, of eyefinity.

dual monitor setups should be one for gaming and one for work and other stuff

Awesome thanks for all of the inputs. I had a few questions if I may.

I am curious what was the reasoning for picking the GTX 670? Are the higher GFX cards just not worth the increase in price?

Would it be worth getting a bit more ram? Like 12 or 16 gigs?

Thanks,

8GB of RAM for a gaming build is way more than enough.

the 670 is pretty much the top of the line other than the 7970. the 680 just isnt worth another hundred dollars for the performance increase

Would you guys suggest SLI the 670 right away or maybe waiting for another price drop in the 670. Most of the Benchmarks I see for the SLI 670 are for resolutions over 1920x1080, would I even see a benefit from going SLI at my resolution?

wait for prices to drop then get it. the 670 will max about everything at 1080p

Looking at the games you posted the only one it would make a major difference on would be BF3 seeing how that game was pretty much coded for Nvidia and SLI. With two of those cards in SLI you would most likely want a 120Hz refresh rate monitor. The cheapest one I know of and it's a good one is the Samsung 23" for $350.

I agree with Why_Me. Unless you want to buy a great quality Korean monitor off ebay or microcenter, get the above monitor (whatever it is lol). :p
