Advice? Building new desktop

Hey, this is my first time building a computer so i would like some suggestion from the community.

Currently i play games like SCII, borderlands, mass effect, mmorpgs, and will need to edit videos and some other work.

I would prefer to keep my budget around $1000-$1500 and may need to get a new monitor, keyboard, mouse, internal card reader, and CD/DVD bay.

  1. Your graphics card may be too big for that case. I have a regular Antec 300 and a HD 6870 will not fit.
  2. Your build seems pretty good to me. Just two suggestions:
    Graphics : 7870 is a good option.
SSD : Maybe consider higher capacity if you plan to install heavy software like video editing and games. Something like 120 GB.
    HDD: WD Caviar Black.
  3. Hmm i see could you suggest a better tower, HDD and SSD that affordable and leave room for a monitor and other necessities.

  5. Quad channel memory will make overclocking harder and it will ont increase performance at all.Plus you dont need more than 8GB.
I suggest swaping the ram for a faster, lower capacity kit.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226223

As for the graphics card both the MSI and the Gigabyte versions of the HD 7870 are too long for the case so i suggest to get the Sapphire version instead.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102981
It's cooler and quieter but it won't perform as well at stock.

Or you should get a better case.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107

You could also get a faster, higher capacity SSD for less money.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227706

I can also tell you from personal expiriance that Seagate Barracuda hard drives are nowhere near as reliable as WD ones.So i think you should upgrade the HDD to a Western Digital Caviar Blue.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

The power supply you picked is also pretty good but you can do much better.
Take a look at this old OCZ flagship.

    It's just too good.
