i plan to buy a new build soon and i was wondering about my cpu choice:

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

is this a good cpu? ive read tons of people say go intel if you can afford it but why exactly?
and if i cant afford intel whats my best option?

i have about $140 bucks for cpu costs.
ill be playing games like battlefield 3 and other first person shooters/survival horror games.

motherboard will probably be ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

one other thing, do case fans effect cpu temps? or is that solely the heatsync?
will the stock heatsync be enough for an overclock up to 4.5?

Solution
At stock clocks it bottlenecked my 7970 ghz by 15% (getting 75% gpu usage) But once i overclocked. The bottleneck vanished. im currently stable at 4.5ghz 1.34volts prime95 gets it too about 55c. but gaming only about 44c. this is on a coolermaster 212 evo

Case fans help a bit. but its mainly the cpu cooler you can overclock with the stock cooler but to be safe i wouldnt go past around 4.2-4.3 or you can pay $30

and have a nice cooler that will overclock fine like me. Honetly for $135 bucks the cpu is really nice. sure at stock clocks it bottlenecks my 7970ghz but considring thats the fastest gpu in the world. and the cpu is 140bucks and Unlocked. i personally wouldnt...

Also anthor reason i was getting bottlenecked is my cpu was not turboing to 4.1 it was going to about 3.7. so if it was acctually turboing correctly i wouldnt of been bottlenecked.

So yes jump on that cpu its great for the price
