No POST across two rigs; is mobo still suspect?

I tried to recycle an old EVGA nForce 680i SLI, but it would not POST; Fans would whir, and status LED code returned two dashes (--). Googling brought me to believe mobo was the issue since CMOS resets did nothing.

I settled on a ASRock G31M-GS R2.0 for the replacement. Same issue: Fans whir, no POST or feedback from monitor. CMOS reset does not help.

I am using a "new" 150W PSU, but the nForce had this issue with 500W. The build is minimum and I can't think of any other culprit other than the CPU or RAM unless I just have bad luck with mobos.

I would greatly appreciate any diagnostic tips, since I am at a loss.

Try the ram first.

Kudos to knightdog. A stick was bad. System now boots.
