I know AMD is lacking atm compared to Intel but my budget build awhile back landed me with my current FX 4170 which don't get me wrong is a fairly nice CPU and pretty good oc on it sitting at 4.8 stable right now. But with the new piledriver's hitting the market I didn't know if it would be a worth while upgrade for one seeing as I don't really want to buy a new mother board for a I5 or I7.
Mainly playing wow atm, also running a Msi gtx 670. Which don't get me wrong with my set up now I'm getting very nice game play all settings maxed usually running at 60FPS (Vsync on) but some times I'll still dip down below that and I'm thinking the cpu has to do with it.

A big reason I'm considering this is a friend of mine has offered 100$ for my fx 4170 I've got right now, so basically would be a 100$ upgrade.

Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I heard that too. but after reading alot of reviews people reaching about the same ghz. i mean im at 4.5ghz on my 6300 and its only 1.34volts i can easily get 4.7-.4.8. But its only 19 bucks so its up to you.

Either the 6300 or 8350. for gaming you wouldnt really notice a difference but if you got the money? why not?

8350 is a good cpu, if you want to upgrade it go ahead but it won't be as good as say a 3570k once highly overclocked in games. But I know you have a budget so 8350 will be fine if that's what you want.

So back to the question at hand do u guys think there will be a difference between bulldozer and piledriver architecture. Enough to notice for the 50-100$ I would end up spending?

i dont think you would notice a difference. it would be dismal. 10% faster if your lucky.

just turn down some settings in wow. shadows dont need to be maxed, second from min is where i put mine. that will help a lot. whatever they call the spell effects can be turned down from the max setting as it looks the same as second from max. that should fix crazy raid situations.

In gaming, i5 2500k will always be dominant over and FX.

Yes yes we all know that. But as i said before he already has a am3+ mobo. what you want him to do with it? throw it in the bin

6300 costs 139

229

total intel: $363

No, just no waste of money espically since OP has am3+. the 6300 will do the job just fine especially when overclocked

tomshardware does a review and it benchmarks WoW
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-8350-vishera-review,3328-15.html

the 8350 gets 84fps

i5 99fps

Lets pay a extra $230 for 15fps?. and esspically since BOTH cpus are getting 60fps+ No. just no

Get the amd 8350/6300 and you will be happy i can guarantee that
