i have an i7 2630QM on my lenovo ideapad y570. the thing is that sometimes only one thread ( it shows up at core1) hits 100% or nearby it and slows down the entire laptop. the rest of the threads are barely even at 5-10%. is there a problem with my laptop? can i fix it?

You have four cores, but likely only one hard drive. If that one thread is hitting the hard drive hard, then other tasks won't have any hard drive I/O left to complete their tasks quickly.

That's why a lot of times an SSD helps as much with performance as a Processor upgrade.

But this even happens when im not doing anything intensive, maybe just downloading something in the background and watching something on vlc
