Do you need a wire connecting the graphics card to the moniter or do you just need the one going from the motherboard to the moniter(blue ends)?

You need a cable to connect a monitor to a graphics adapter.

Some motherboards have integrated graphics adapters, and you can plug your monitor in the rear i/o panel port.

If you have only a discrete graphics card, then the monitor plugs in there.

With both integrated and discrete, take your pick.
