Hi guys!
I'm a total newb and I haven't build my first computer yet. Yeah... I'm ashamed.
I have around maybe $700 to spend (could probably spend more if needed, I just want more bang for my bucks)

I really have no idea what I'm doing and was hoping that you can guide me through.
I was looking at processors such as like AMD FX-8150 and GTX-480 Graphic cards, then it struck me... I don't know what motherboard to get, how much my power supply needs, etc.

So, got any ideas on what parts I should buy if you have around $700?
Or givemme ideas/tips/help, etc.? :)

- i5 3470
- Coolermaster Hyper 212+ EVO
- Gigabyte H77M-D3H
- 8GB DDR3 kit 1600MHz
- Gigabyte Windforce 7950
- CM Storm Enforcer
- Corsair TX 650 v2
- 1TB HDD and standard burner

~$850 or so depending on what country you are in, solid and will last for a long time.

What the difference between AMD FX 8150 to the Intel i5 Quad 3450 Ivy?
I'm looking at like CPU Benchmark and it says AMD has the better benchmark and for a cheaper price.

Or the HIS Radeon HD 7870 2GB Video Card to the GTX-480? The GTX has the higher score but it's cheaper.
Mind clearing this up for me?

FX is rubbish for gaming, its single threaded and IPC performance is very poor. There is no point in getting a hot and loud 480 when a 7870 is vastly better. I also recommend you be flexible with your build. An extra $100 today will be worth it three years on.

Where the F... did you read that????

when the FX-8150 beats the 3450(extremely threaded apps) is by a slight margin but when the 3450 beats the FX-8150 the difference is huge.

Even the "soon to be 2 years old" 2500k beats the FX-8150, remember that you must add a 6% performance gain to simulate the performance of a 3450 (clock per clock) btw.... you can overclock the 3450 a LITTLE (400Mhz at most)

look: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=434 note how the 2500k rapes the FX8150 in games.

Where are you getting that information from?? http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=518 i couldn't find a direct compassion between the 7870 and the GTX480 but the GTX570 is barely 3% slower than the GTX480 (look: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/309?vs=306 )

The FX8150 is not as bad in games as most are led to believe. Yes, some games that are CPU-intensive the Intels fair better than the FX but I wouldn't use the word "rapes". i love the hyperbole used on these forums.
