I purhased an i7 3820 and a GA-X79-UP4 motherboard! I've installed everything and the Socket 1366 coolers are supposed to be compatible.

I have a Consair H50 but it requires a new bracket so I tried to install the stock cooler that came with my core i7 920 but it does not even come close to touching the CPU itself?? :??:

What do you mean "Come close to touching the CPU?" Is it above it or the screw for the cooler won't reach the MOBO? The H50 should fit on there without any special bracket, it comes with everything you need to install on a 2011 chipset. Is the CPU installed correctly? Is the corner marker of the CPU in the right corner? Can you post a pic of what the problem is?

The heatsink wouldn't physically touch the CPU. After a bit of research I realized its the revision 2 of the H50 that has the brackets for LGA2011, I have the first revision. With that Consair shipped me the newer brackets required for free.

Ok but the stock cooler that came with the processor should have no issues, thats why I think something is installed incorrectly.
