Okay so my friend was looking to get a gaming computer and I told him if he did a custom build he good get great results for a cheap price. He didn't believe me and went out to buy a 2,880$ Pre-Built PC. Now with that budget can you guys show me the best build one could get? Note that this doesn't include a monitor but it does include keyboard and mouse. Lets prove him wrong!

You're right. For gaming, you don't need an i7 and 16GB of RAM. But that does a long way in proving that the OP's friend is wrong.

I was at the Apple Store a few days ago. They sell the 27" iMac for $1700. And it comes with 4GB RAM. I wish they put at least 8GB standard.

HP lets you customize their desktops and one of them goes up to $3K and has an FX 8120 and 7950. For $3K!

Now, your friend has a good system, no doubts about that. It will stick around for a good time, though he needs to understand that the stuffs inside are the same that you can find in major retailers and/or E-retailers; therefore no matter where he goes, he will never be able to come near close to what he could have paid if he did it himself and for a system like this.... about 5 hours with breaks if it is your first timer... but it is also fun to do...

Just ask your friend to go to Device Manager and read you his specs while you show/tell him the specs he could have gotten by building.
