I'm changing my motherboard ( Gigabyte 78lmt-usb3) and cpu (fx4170). I'm wondering what's the best money for cpu i can get. I have been recommended the i7 and i guess, with it's price it's the best. Am I right?

I also want a good motherboard obviously compatible with a good cpu and will go with the Msi 7950 twin frozr i already have. Also with my DDR3 RAM and my 2.16tb hdd.
Please use UK links for good price.

Edit: I also heard the 8350 is good. I also don't want to over spend stupidly.

For gaming right now very few games will use more than 4 threads for this reason the hyper-threading on the Intel® Core™ i7 will have minimal use on a gaming system system. So I would go with the Intel Core i5-3570K. Matched up with a good board like the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 you should have a good system that will work very well as a gaming system.

Best CPU for gaming in EVERYTHING except battlefield 3 is defo the 3570k, battlefield 3 is the only game i know that can use 6 cores.

Whoever recommended you an i7, unless they were perhaps talking about an extreme ($1000) chip, had no clue what they were talking about.

IntelEnthusiast's recommendation is exactly spot on. The only thing that would be faster is spending a thousand more on a Xeon chip, which REALLY is a stupid idea... it would get perhaps 10 more fps in two whole games.

Just grab an I7,Because lets face it sure games right now dont use more than 4 cores but think of the future...spend an extra 100 now and save yourself from spending another $320 in the future...i got my i7...i wont be upgrading for another 2-5 years :) now gpu's are different but cpu's are fast :D
