I am wondering if I can put the Intel Core i7 2600K Quad Core Unlocked Hyperthreading Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Sandy Bridge 8GB in place of the Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 quad processor Q9400
Yes you can, but you have to replace other components also. The motherboard is a different socket and you would have to buy a LGA 1155 socket motherboard along with the new processor.
I am a beginner so I will have to start from scratch, I would love to build a great piece by piece computer that is extreme, do you have any sites where I could get help for proper fitting components throughout? Thank you so much also!

Can I add more than the 8GB DDR3- 1066MHZ SDRAM [4 DIMMS] to it?
Not according to the link I sent you. That being the case, 8GB is typically more than enough for most users. I assume you are asking about your current motherboard and the memory it will support.
