Second posting - wireless connection

Don't think my first posting was specific enough. Could someone please explain the following to my friend:

My friend's PC is connected to internet via ethernet cable and he cannot understand why his laptop (wireless enabled) does not show a wireless connection within the vicinity of PC. Tried to explain to him the PC needs to be set up for a wireless connection, but he thinks his router will show up anyway.

He cannot understand what I am trying to say and I would appreciate an explanation - especially if I am wrong - because he won't accept that I may be right. Thanks

If there is a wireless connection with a router nearby and his adapter is on, then his computer should be able to discover it--REGARDLESS of whether or not the ethernet is plugged in.

The point is the PC does not have a wireless connection.
