I currently have athlon x2 3ghz which is ok not super good but i have ordered a AMD Phenom II X4 965 which should be here soon and was wondering would it be good for Photoshop?
The Adobe website states that you need a Athlon 64, so you're upgrade to Phenom 965 should handle Photoshop well. You'll see an improvement with the 4 cores for handling this application as well

It mostly depends on what kind of editing you do in Photoshop. My wife opens many PSD (about 100MB to 500MB) each at a time combining layers in new ways and easily smokes through 8GB+ in ram usage, but it barely taxes the AMD dual core she is using.
