we need the exact model of your TV, and the video card in your laptop - to tell you what the max resolution of each is

you can either change the setting on the tv or laptop

i would start with the laptop - change the resolution to a lower number - for example, if your res now is 1900x1080, change it to 1600x900 or 1366x768 and see if that helps

Try opening up the display properties (right click desktop, display properties), and try the different resolutions. If it is a flat screen TV, try 1280x720, which is 720p. If your TV does 1080p, you can try 1920x1080.

Your TV might be in Overscan mode. Look for this option and turn it off. If you LCD tv is 1080p and your laptop is less you should be able to have alternating resolutions. Overscan usually zooms in the image about 5%.
