I've a ASUS P5E Mobo with a QX9650 CPU (@3.6GHz.) , a GTX480 and want to put a HD5770 in
this rig too. So far both cards are recognized by GPUz 0.62, but only 480 supportsOpenCL, which
is necessary. Both are in PCIe 1.1 x16 slot. OS is XP 64 Pro. 4 GByte DDR2 800 (FSB=1600)

Maybe I need a 'dummy-load' and desktop extension?

If the relative power of the two cards were reversed (i.e. something like a HD7850 and a GTX550Ti), it would make sense to play the driver games needed to run the AMD card for the display and the nVidia card for PhysX. As it is now, I cannot imagine what you'd have to gain by adding the HD5770 to your system. I think you might also need to use Windows 7 to use two different drivers like that. If you just want to add more screens (for non-gaming/3D applications), get something like a GT440.

WHY...? :??:
and like 'jjt' hinted as in PhysX then this set-up is ALL wrong.

No, I need both GPUs to be capable of OpenCL and run some ffa math on them.

Maybe I've to pull the 480 and then install the 5770?!
As the 480 was installed at first. (And is CUDA and OpenCL capable).

Anyway, thanx ;-)

I'd just run the GTX 480....
Fermi (design name) is a strong compute card.
