My mom has lost her phone. She was with Bell, but there are only a few months left on the plan. Was thinking of getting her City Fido. She averages over 200 minutes a month, but likes to use them anytime.

What's the best deal going now for a new phone and no contract? Richmond Night Market had the Siemens A56 for $30 including SIM. Anyone know of any Fido or other carrier deals comparable to City Fido?

Just looking to get the best deal. Didn't come here to make friends or create enemies. It's simply economics and trying to reach out to as many as possible.

AFAIK Fido allows any Fido account to be a transfer of a landline number.
Not all CSRs know how to do this so if they say no call back to get a
different CSR. TTYL

You should be able to transfer your home telephone number to Fido.

Check out this webpage to verify if it is possible for you home
telephone number:

I'm waiting for CityFido to be available in my area before
transferring my home telephone number to Fido. I checked and according
to this webpage, my home telephone number is transferrable.

Hogwash! Not everyone needs ubiquitous service out in the boonies.
If anyone's going to be mostly in urban environments Fido will work
just fine. It may be hard for you to grasp, but some people don't go
out in the woods in Thunder Bay or up in the north of Nunavit. Of
course you would cross-post it to the Bell Mobility and Rogers groups.
Like they don't have an axe to grind! (Sure!) Your idea of "most"
and most other people's definition of most is most decidedly
different.

You evidently didn't chose to notice that they were enquiring about
Fido deals in the GVRD and not out in the middle of nowhere. But you
have your own agenda I'm sure.

None of the other cellular service providers provide anything similar
to CityFido. I'm just waiting for it to become available in the
Montreal area so that I can sign up for it and cancel my Bell
(landline) phone line. The only thing you have to watch out for in
regards to Fido is if your mom (or you) plan on using the cellphone
between urban centres. Fido has a reputation for not having good
reception between major urban centres.

Since CityFido is meant to replace a landline phone, it is a very good
deal (flat monthly fee). With what landline service provider can you
travel around the city with a landline phone?
