The motherboard only has a pci expressx1 slot, which is very dissapointing. just wondering if theres anything better then my 7450 thats in it.

yes it can be upgraded but you will probably need to upgrade the power supply as well!

If the card is a discrete graphics card, yes. It is plugged into the slot that you will want to use for the new card. Haven't you opened the case to look yet? What resolution is your display? The higher the resolution, the more powerful the card needs to be.

Yeah it's a discrete card, I just don't know if I have a PCI express x1 or a PCI express x16 And yes it is plugged into the slot I will use for a future GPU.

You have a PCIe x16 slot. That's what I'm trying to tell you. It's what your HD 7450 is plugged into.
The PCIe x1 slot is a different slot for an expansion card other than a video card.

As long as you get a card that doesn't require an external PCIe power cable. Get one that gets all it power from the 75W PCIe slot.

It doesn't matter. PCIe is backward compatible. And there is no card yet made that saturates even the PCIe 2.0 buss.

He might as well just get a radeon 7750 because it only uses the power provided from the PCIE Slot :kaola:

You should check your power supply....HP has been known to use lesser quality ones. If you are planning to keep your system beyond the warranty period, I suggest that you start thinking about changing out the PS at some point. Even a budget priced Antec VP-450 will likely blow it out of the water.

For the past four or so years, I have been running a refurb HP tower with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+. It's got a 300 watt Bestec AKA Worstec. It's lasted 4 years so that's something. Too scared to stick a good graphics card like a HD 7750 in it right now...since the CPU is too slow too.

I also have the h8-1414 he is talking about and the motherboard on there isnt accepting 2.0 because I have an ati 7600 series I cant tell the exact model but I get 6 beeps when i put it in. I thought it was the video card so I took the card to best buy to test it out and the card worked fine. Im trying to find a bios update because thats what the guy mentioned at BB. I changed out the powersupply with a 500W and it has plenty of juice. suggestions would be great other than returning the pc back to the store lol Ive made to many mods.
