Budget HTPC GPU for AMD 9600?

I taking an old computer from a friend and I want to make into a HTPC :)

It has no GPU on it right now. I was wondering what GPU (/w HDMI out maybe?) is best with the AMD 9600 because it is kind of old cpu and I don't want be bottle-necking the GPU (also I don't wanna spend much).

I'm just planning to watch movies some at 720p thats about it im assuming not much gpu power is needed... but anyway If anyone can recommend me some GPU that would be nice!

Thanks!

  1. Any basic Discrete GPU with HDMI out will suit your needs for a HTPC
  2. If all you want to do is an HTPC setup, the 6450 is usually pretty cheap.

That one even comes with a free game that you can use or give to someone.
  3. For 720p this wouldn't bottleneck at all, probably a GPU relative to this like a gts 450 would work too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102988
  4. For a HTPC he wouldn't need a 6670. Thats too much power. May as well go for something cheaper and quieter (hence the no fan on the one I suggested) that gets the job done just as well.

As long as you do NO gaming the 6450 should suffice.
