Is it possible to take off a heat sink from a CPU?

If I wanted to change CPUs but didn't want to get a new heat sink, could I remove the heatsink and use it again on another after the thermal paste has already been applied?

Yes you should be able to. If you go up a higher cpu. Your temps will rise, I would keep a close eye on them until you know it is good. If your temps go to far up you must get a better heatsink.
