Just built a new HTPC with the ASRock H77m. Build went fine and everything "works," but here's my problem. By the way I just have an Onkyo HT-S3500 Home Theater in a Box, nothing special. On the computer I was using before, a Gateway something or other, I had Dolby Digital Live. I used this day to day watching YouTube, Netflix etc. and it would create a simulated surround sound environment from a stereo signal. Though watching a Blu-Ray sounded much better.
On my new HTPC, I have no problem playing BD Rips in 5.1 over HDMI. But what I am missing is the surround sound in everything else. I really do not like that that what used to be in surround now only plays in 2(.1). My receiver consistently says PCM whether over HDMI or Optical unless, when playing a BD Rip in VLC, I choose A-C3 over SP/DIF as the audio device, in which case the red DTS symbol pops up on my receiver.
Do I need a sound card that can do DDL or DTS connect? Or is there another software solution I am missing? Is there a way to get DDL or DTS Connect to work with my system without a soundcard? My mobo driver disc came with THX TruStudio and there is an upgrade for a Pro version but I don't think this will help, nor does my receiver support THX encoding (I dont think).
Guys please help. I'm pulling my hair out over this. I'm no audiophile, I just want it to sound good, the way it used to, but on this awesome new computer I just built.
