General computer issues.

Ok so here's the backstory. Around a year ago me and my dad built a computer together with components from new egg. Brand new, pretty expensive, very exciting. It ran fine for some time and then the first issue came up about 4 months ago when my power supply fried. I got a new one and it worked from there. Today my hard drive now failed. Im not sure if it's related or if this is just coincidence.
Here are my questions:
1) why would my power supply fail? Is it just happenstance or am I doing something wrong?
2) why would my hard drive fail? Same question.
3) right now I need to buy a new hard drive I guess and I would like suggestions on what I should get.

I just want to know if these two occurrences are related and what I can do to prevent this.

Your power supply came with a 5yr warranty, why would you replace it with a Rosewill psu??

What makes you think the hard drive failed? Isn't it still under 3yr warranty? So why would you not get it replaced and buy something else?

Things fail. My last build started with a corsair 650 watt from bestbuy, and the pcie power cable died within 30 days.

Hard drives die all the time, there are moving parts in them after all.

Things die. Sounds like you just have bad luck.
