Installing new motherboard

I need to replace the MOBO in my computer, how hard will this be? can i just put in a new board and start the computer up or will i need to re-format my HD and reinstall the operating system (fyi it's looking like i won't be able to get the same board as i was using previously)

My CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz Socket AM3

and on a side note, if anyone has any recomendations for a cheap MOBO that will work with my CPU i'd love to hear them. I'm not really looking for upgradability, just something cheap and easy.
