running the following

amd a10 5800k
gigabyte fm2 mobo
16gb gskill ripjaws
3 sata hds
1 ssd
2 x 7870 tahiti gfx cards

how much power do i need and what would be the ideal size

Hi - realhardtech suggests 600w for a sys with 2 7870's CF, and that has some
headroom built in (not all 600w PSU's are created equal) to insure
enough amps on the +12v rail(s).

However, you do need a PSU with 4 PCI-E connectors(although you can
use molex to PCI-E adapters) for 2 7870's, and PSU's with 4 PCI-E
connectors generally appear on quality PSU's of 650w & above.

So, you can run your sys with 600w(even a good quality 550w) and get the
molex to PCI-E adapters you need or purch a quality 650w unit with 4 PCI-E
connectors, which is what I would do.

Quality brands: Seasonic, XFX, PC Power & Cooling, Rosewill Capstone series,
Antec, most Corsair's, and a few others.

Tom

if you would like me to recommend a couple, plz post your budget

I was told that I would need a minimum 750w psu like corsair or ocz. Ideally prefer one with the. 4 pcie connections on it

You were given bad information if someone told you 750w minimum,
you need 600w, but the ones with 4 connectors are going to
be 650w & above. ocz has some good psu's and a couple not too good.

Bad choice of cpu mate. Long story haha. Does it make a difference but the 7870 is th. Vtx3d tahitis do they use more power. Don't wanna end up with a psu that can't run it. I have a 700w just now but soon as I run furmark company shuts down so takin the psu ain't good enough being a cheapo one

On the 1st psu I noticed that it has 2 x8 pin pcie connectors do they still fit a 6 pin connection

Yes - the 8 pin(commonly referred to as 6+2pin) also work on the 6 pin,
the last 2 don't get used if you don't need them

Sound ill order the one from scan as I've used them before think it was the 650w one. And your sure that will definitely be enough to power the. 2 cards

Yes, I'm sure the XFX 650 will power the 2 7870's, as realhardtech
states you need only 600w, you will have headroom. The XFX is
Seasonic built and a quality unit.
