For AGP users (AMD Catalyst™ 12.6 Driver Download for AMD Radeon™ AGP Graphics Products: AMD Radeon HD 4xxx, AMD Radeon HD 3xxx and AMD Radeon HD 2xxx series of products )

Is anyone having problems installing with AGP Driver 12.6_Legacy AGP Hotfix

I am unable to install it (I even used Driver Fusion(Driver Sweeper))

I only can install by INF

I use Windows XP SP3

Once again downloading free security from the internet is a really bad idea.
Installing "driver sweeper" is an equally bad idea.

Turn off the security entirely when loading drivers and updates. The security can stop the process.
After loading restart and turn the security back on.

That Driver Sweeper is full legitment which actually works.

Is also not my Protection.

I mostly think is the ATI 12.6 AGP Setup (FRESH INSTALL) cause when i used ATI 12.4 AGP (Fresh Install) it installs everything work fine for 12.4 not 12.6.

If the security could be the problem, disable it before installing. AMD recommends this anyway.

Also using driver sweeper or any other driver removal tool could remove components needed in order to install drivers and to function properly. I've only run into this one issue after using driver sweeper (never again mind you) In AMD's case, Net framework isn’t included in all of their driver installation packages, so you may need to find it yourself at Microsoft.

yeah I'm trying to install it for my 3850 HD and no luck. I'm having the same issues a you, mind you i'm doing a clean install so there's no "security programs" messing up with the installation process. I'm going to try to reinstall 12.4 an then installing 12.6 from there.
July 29, 2012 11:23:33 PM

Yea.

Have not have a issue snice now AMD Driver 12.6 Legecy

Only can install by .Inf without any packages.

oh did you get it to work? the 12.4 didnt work for me anymore (even though it did prior...) so i installed the 12.3 and that's workng for me right now.
July 30, 2012 9:37:11 PM

Yea i been using 12.6 installed by using device manger manaully installing .inf (Driver 12.6 Legecy) snice i cant use CCC.

You can install the .inf file but you wont be able use Catayst Control Center ATI . Only Video Card driver.

The Performance maybe a slightly slower if you dont have CCC also.

12.4 Legacy (AGP) Driver worked for me when installed it was clean to.
July 31, 2012 3:13:19 PM

so is the performance overall better or worse?

i love messing with software like the next computer geek, but this sounds like too much work to get a driver from a major company to work properly. maybe i'll wait for a 12.7, but having the 12.6 considered as "legacy driver" would make me think that anything passed 12.6 would not be made, especially since AMD announced that they would not be supporting any cards anymore 4XXX HD series and lower.

thanks for the reply though valeman2012, i might follow your steps in the future; I just hate looking at a monitor with horrible resolution while i try to troubleshoot everything.

Well is mostly AMD fault that this Driver 12.6 AGP is screwed up

Just waiting for theirfix or waiting for a graphics experts to respone thanks.

Hmmm, I'm looking at the file name for the 12.6 AGP hotfix and it doesn't seem right. Perhaps they posted incorrect links..?

12.4 AGP hotfix (works):
12-4_agp-hotfix_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

12.6 AGP hotfix (doesn't work):
12-6-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe

I can install 12.4 for my HD 3850 AGP on Windows 7 64bit, but even trying to manually install 12.6 via the .INF files shows an error like "This driver is not compatible with the current operating system". So I think they have posted links to non-AGP packages.

I've emailed AMD about this.

I had the same issue for my Sapphire 4650 Ultimate AGP running Win XP 32.
After many testing and backup/restore :pt1cable:  , the method that worked for me is:

1. download the driver from sapphire (12-6-legacy-xp32-dd-ccc-whql-...zip

2. unpacked 12-6-legacy_xp32_dd_ccc_whql.exe and started id.
After it unpacked itself to a folder of my choice, it showed me only the Installation Manager but neither ccc nor driver.

3. pcitree showed me the PCI-numbers of my 4650:
VEN=1002, DEV=9495

4. in the unpacked folder, theres a file
C:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_xp32_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Drivers\Display\XP_INF\CX142837.inf
But it did'nt contain an entry for DEV_9495 in opposite to the older catalyst 11.
So I made a manual entry with the editor into this file:
Under section "[ATI.Mfg.NTx86]":
"%AMD9495.1%" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9495
and under section "; Localizable Strings":
AMD9495.1 = "ATI Radeon HD 4650 AGP"

5. After that, the "New hardware" dialog of XP found the driver as I picked up the mentioned directory.

6. Tried to install package
C:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_xp32_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Apps\CCC\Utility\ccc-utility.msi
Result: no catalyst

7. Tried to install package
D:\AMD\Support\12-6-legacy_xp32_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Apps\CCC\Core-Static\ccc-core-static.msi
Result: catalyst was there

Now, I will run this configuration and test stability...

I have not try it but it may have worked for other people using AGP (2xxx to 4670)
August 29, 2012 4:32:03 AM

so does the 12.6 agp hotfix work for you then? was there an official working version or is this just a work around to get it to work?
August 29, 2012 11:36:53 PM

Now is working (CCC came back) but AMD Probaly left out the Control Center Install in the setup again.

Hello i have same graphic card, i did a clean Xp 32 bit installation,
i did the modification you mentioned and in it worked windows picked up the driver and installed it, after that it asked me for reboot, i accepted.
and i got blue screen when the system was shutting down.
IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0x0A

I reboot manually with the button, driver seems installed i change resolution to 1024x768.
and launch a 3D game, play for about 10 seconds it freezes, black screen, no signal, i wait 1 minute.
new Blue screen:
Problem with this file have been found: ati2dvag
STOP 0XEA

I didn't even installed catalist i wanted to test if the driver worked properly first, but it doesn't, i need help...

i was so stupid to choose ATI AGP, is the worst graphic card i've seen in my life (27 years)
