why would you consider that with a lower tier cpu that would bottleneck it bad?

Like Recon said. Nope you cannot. Sometimes there are exceptions but mostly only the same card can be sli'd.

As the others said, Nvidia's hardware does not allow hybrid multi-card configurations. You can have Quad SLI with 2 GTX 690's or use a single GTX 690 and use the GTX 680 as a dedicated PhysX card. This kind of setup is overkill though when many consider my GTX 560 Ti to be overkill for PhysX duty.

not entirely true.
hybrid PhysX is real and using a HD Radeon GPU with nVidia GPU (PhysX) is very common.
just takes certified 'hacked' drivers.

so the 'hybrid' term in this case is incorrect and needs to be strictly about nVidia PGU's.

That's true, but the OP wanted Hyrbid SLI, I know that Nvdia GPU's can be used as PhysX processors with AMD GPU's. :)

- What's your monitor res?
- Why do you need to go higher than a single 690? (I know you have a 680).....unless you have a good deal opportunity right now, in which case get the 690 and sell your 680?
- Why not get another 680 - pretty much 1/2 price of a 690?
- You may want to look at your cpu before these kinds of high-end multi gfx set-up's.

While they come from the same chip, the 670 also has disabled cuda cores.

what is the real difference between those cards other than $100- people can overclock a 670 more than a 680 thus getting more frames and saving $100 and using it on an SSD.

I personally would not go out and buy a 2nd GPU with the knowledge of needing to rely on this hack. However, if you happen to already own 2 cards which qualify for this hack, then as long as you are aware of the risks, go for it.
