Which power supply for an AMD Athlon64 x2 3600+

Hi, I have an AMD Athlon64 x2 3600+ with an ASUS motherboard (M2NPV-VM) and it currently has a GIGABYTE Odin 470 power supply which has been discontinued. I need to replace the power supply and wanted to know what would be a suitable replacement power supply?

Thanks,

Daniel

  1. Maybe corsair gs600? it 600w and pretty good for the price and you won't have to worry about upgrading it if you choose to buy new parts.

Hi - what's your system specs, especially gpu.
Need that info to give the best psu suggestion
    for you.

  4. Ok, I think I've got everything as far as the system specs go, hard for me to get as I can't turn it on.

    CPU: AMD Athlon64 x2 3600+
    Motherboard: ASUS M2NPV-VM
GPU: ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB
    RAM: 2 x 1GB DDR2 Corsair PC2 5300 (667MHz)
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD RE3 7200 RPM 320GB
Optical: LG SuperMulti DVD Model GH20ns10 (48x CD/12x DVD Read)

For that particular system you can take any crappy generic PSU, but if you think about the future, you should really take a solid PSU from a well known manufacturer like OCZ, Corsair, antec etc. You can easily take the one that I suggested (GS600) and you won't have to think about buying a new PSU when you want to upgrade your system.

Hi - looks to be an older system (>5years) and doesn't have any
real power hungry components in it. A decent quality
350w PSU would be more than sufficient. I'll recommend
a couple in the 430 - 500w range as there are some good specials
    running now:

Hi again Daniel - Is this power supply still working?
Just want to be sure you are not replacing it
    just because it's discontinued.
