Hi not exactly a novice when it come to these things but not really professional either.

MotherBoard - Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 AM3+

Ram - Corsair CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10 Vengeance Memory 8gb DDr3 1600MHz

They are to replace my slightly old Parts

CPU - AMD Athlon II x2 255
Motherboard - MSI K9N6PGM2-V
Ram - 4gb DDr2

Would Like a verdict on the new parts, and thanks for reading & replying

Looks good, maybe go for the fx 6300 as ur getting an am3+ board unless its a passing cpu for a 8350 or steamroller, the x4 965 is a great cpu, but the 6300 is a great cpu for its cost. All compatible

i3s are dual cores with HT, tho usually faster core per core than a phenom, if going intel go right away with a i5.
A 6300 is the best choice for cost to performance, right around $140 the same as an i3, and usually amd to me would make the obvious decision when not getting a i5/i7. Anything mentioned will be huge increase versus ur old x2 and ddr2, so x4,fx, core i3/i5 is a win win
