More about upgrading opinions
  1. Looks good, maybe go for the fx 6300 as ur getting an am3+ board unless its a passing cpu for a 8350 or steamroller, the x4 965 is a great cpu, but the 6300 is a great cpu for its cost. All compatible
  2. Well , I'll advice you the Intel core i3 3220 , It's a lot better than the Phenom II x4 965
  3. i3s are dual cores with HT, tho usually faster core per core than a phenom, if going intel go right away with a i5.
A 6300 is the best choice for cost to performance, right around $140 the same as an i3, and usually amd to me would make the obvious decision when not getting a i5/i7. Anything mentioned will be huge increase versus ur old x2 and ddr2, so x4,fx, core i3/i5 is a win win
