I recently bought a new cpu. I3-2120 to upgrade for my Pentium G620.
After installing the CPU the computer would boot for a split second all the fans would spin then the system turns off.
Then i reinstalled my G620 and the computer was working fine.

PC Specs

Gigabyte P67A-UD3P-B3
Corsair 4GB DDR3 1333 ram
Stock Intel 1155 Heatsink

if you have two heat sinks, have you tried interchanging them?

Yes I have, but the problem is still there, as far as I can see the heatsinks are identical.

What bios version do you have on the mobo...site says you need F4 for the i3-2120.
But they are all the way up to F9...

yes HSF's are identical. I was suspecting that one of the coolers might be faulty. What you are explaining are the usual symptoms of either a shorting mobo( which should not correct itself with processor swap) or maybe a faulty processor.

try running the i3 out of the case. put your mobo on a flat surface may be a wooden table essentially a non conductive material and then try booting up.

BIOS update would be my last guess

I just tried a out of the case boot, it still has the same problem. I guess its the cpu is faulty.
