Recently upgraded some parts on my computer which left me just lacking some basics for another computer which will be given to my girlfriend. My goal is a computer that will play most computer games adequately. What I am assuming will be my weak link is the GTX 275 (890mb ram). She is not huge into computer games but does play WoW on her laptop which gets 15fps with everything on low. Here is the build I have been throwing around. The only parts I am not willing to buy are the ones I currently own but feel free to comment on them being a weak link if you feel they are.

CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz (129.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Stock Intel
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G41 ATX ($88.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 ($36.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Have sitting on my shelf)
Video Card: EVGA GTX 275 896mb (Have on shelf)
Case: COOLER MASTER Elite 311 Mid-Tower ($38.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 (Have on shelf)

After shipping I am looking at $315.

My real question is where do you guys see this system topping out in video games? If she takes a liking to computer gaming I will be upgrading the graphics card to most likely a gtx 670. What I don't want happening is running into the CPU being the bottleneck from the start(I have never even touched an i3). If she can play WoW, CoD, Mass Effect3, Diablo3, Borderlands2, and Dota2 on medium graphics while keeping 30-40 FPS I will call this acceptable for her.

A quick links for the build

You dont need a Z77 mobo. You cant even OC that i3. H77 is all you need.

A good 500W PSU will still power your build.

Get the 7850, seriously. Downgrading the mobo and PSU should provide enough money for it. If not, the 7770 will give you enough performance. The 7850 will play alot of games on 1080p though.

to answer your question yes your computer will be able to play all of those games at medium with 30 -40 frames. It would actually be a bit better. i had a core 2 dou 2.4 ghz(which is much weaker to your selected processor) and a 5770 (about the same strength as the 275) play mass effect 3 and cod at high settings 1080p with above 40ish frames. I've never played WoW or Dota. this setup will be a fine budget gaming computer with lots of potential to grow.

Nw33- I picked the z77 mobo for the possibility of upgrading the processor later. I have never run less than an i7 and yes the mobo is cheap but figure it might not be horrible.

The PSU came out of my old rig so costs me nothing. I could downgrade the mobo but I would only save $30.

-Dane332 Thanks for the response. That is what I was thinking but wanted another person agreeing.

Just a follow up. Computer built and games tested. On average getting 40-50fps per game with graphics on high and anti-aliasing on 2x.
