So, I posted on here earlier last month about how my AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE was bottle necking my GTX670. Well the tax return is in and it's finally time to upgrade. My intent the entire time was to upgrade to the FX8350. However I don't think that's an option as I did a little research and have a Gigabyte 970A-DS3 MOBO, which apparently doesn't support anything over the FX 8120. However I was reading that the FX6300 is actually better than that. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and what kind of performance I can expect from either CPU for gaming? Also if someone found a way to get the FX-8350 to work in their rig I'd love to hear that news as well.

Gaming isn't really going to demand all that much CPU wise, but AM3+ is getting old, for a good upgrade path I would go intel 1155/2011. The best CPU for gaming dollar for dollar right now is the i5 3570K, but it sounds to me like you want to stay on your board. By all means, get a 6300, 6 cores for under 200 dollars is amazing. But gaming, an FX 4100 by itself would unleash the power of your 670. It really depends on how much you're willing to spend, and what work you're willing to do.

Sorry but you cannot install the FX8350 on your board. Get a 6300 and you'll be fine. 6300 will not bottleneck your GPU. There won't be much of a difference in gaming with either of the CPUs.

Thanks for the advice guys, I just completed this build and it was my first one. I was slightly disheartened when I realized that the 8350 wouldn't work, however if I can max out games like battlefield with the 6300 that's all I really want to do.

It will not bottleneck the 670 gtx, it's a decent cpu, if you can oc the cpu the better.

Yep it's a fine cpu I can vouch for that and the guy who said lga 1155 had a upgrade path lga 1155 is dead. Haswell will be replacing it... Am3+ still has some juice for steam roller. Anyway the 6300 is nice even without a oc it still runs any games fine
