More about 1200 1500 gaming desktop
  1. here you go
    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hSgy

the keyboard is usually on sale for 59.99 after MIR. just wait a bit for that. the mech keyboard is totally worth the price
  2. A) Is the special keyboard really so important?

    B) Is the difference between gtx 660 ti and gtx 670 worth the $100?

    C) Is the SSD going to make all that much of a difference?

EDIT: Also, embarassed to say I forgot to put down a memory component. This wish list has been sitting around for a while and the one I selected must have gone out of stock while I was waiting.

I added one to the top post.
  3. 1: the keyboard isnt too important but since i switched to a mech keyboard a few months ago, i typed 10% faster. when i went back to a regular, they felt like junk
2:not really. if you dont want to spend the extra cash, id suggest getting the 7870 instead as it performs like a 660ti but is a hundred dollars less. ill link you it if you are interested
3: the ram i chose is the same but 2 bucks cheaper
  4. A lot of the benchmarks I read up on say that the 660 ti is superior to the AMD 7870, and is nearly as good as the 7950. I may be wrong of course.
  5. it is but by a little bit. not worth the extra 100 dollars
    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=647

actually they are pretty evenly matched in some situations
  6. Send me a link?

Also is there any more of the price you can shave off my build?
  7. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121624&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_ na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

if it doesnt work, use this
    http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-hd7870dc22gd5

after what i stated, i probably can but the sniper m3 motherboard has great onboard audio that adds to the value. just slot the 7870 and you are good to go with your build

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130809

...about as good as the MSI Gtx 660 ti I have above? The difference is that EVGA version has a warranty plan while the MSI doesn't.
  10. well you trade overvolting (more power to video card), cooler temps (by up to 10c), and overall quieter operation

either way, get a 7870 or the msi 660ti
  11. Is the MSI 2-3 year limited warranty decent?
  12. $1,500 budget, no SLI/Crossfire and it's a gaming build. That says GTX 670.
  13. Why_Me said:

Nah, it screams GTX 670; or at least a highly overclocked HD 7950. :D
  14. Is the GTX 670 worth the extra $100?

Also are there any GTX 660 ti models that have the same price as MSI but also have replacement warranty?

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GeForce_GTX_670_Windforce/ <----- there's some benches to check out. That card is a monster and it doesn't suffer at high detail on high settings like the 660 ti.

I plan on using ultra settings for most games, but I'm not going any further than 1920 x 1080p resolution. Would I need anything more than a gtx 660 ti?
  17. That particular card is also a great overclocker...especially with it's custom cooler.

Excellent card for the money. If you buy it now, you can get a 10% discount and a free copy of Borderlands 2 on Newegg.
  18. Another recommendation to consider...

    SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 OC
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102982

It's faster than a gtx 680. Beast of a card for the same price of a gtx 670. Also comes with a free game.
  19. Does the SSD storage make that big of a difference. If I subtract that, it would open up room in my budget to get a gtx 670.
  20. It just allows for faster load times in games and when booting the computer. Not particularly as important as the GPU though. I'd go with the best GPU you can get. You can always grab a SSD later.
  21. theproductofboredom said:

It should fit into your budget. Your original build had the more expensive asrock extreme4 which is a board meant for a dual card set up and you didn't use any newegg combo's nor amazon. The only thing you need to change...size up on is your case. It sucks. You can nail a nice Antec three hundred two with front 3.0 USB ports, better cooling, more room, etc... for $60 and free shipping @ amazon.

Take a look at that build I posted up above. Add your monitor, keyboard, etc... to that build and see what it totals up to. It should be well under your $1,500 budget.
  22. or just go with my build and you would be ok. the 7970 is faster than the 670 and msot of the time the but its really your choice what features you want. if you are to play things that have physx, get nvidia
  23. Does Amazon have warranty?

    Also how is this case?

With some components on there you have to get the warranty through the manufacture which is easy enough to do. Proof of purchase and your good to go. That and there's no middle man.
  25. Yeah but the myservice warranty on newegg covers accidental damage as well....
  26. im better off with ncix
  27. Anyway, a revised build.

    A) NOOOOOO!

    B) Don't get a 660Ti. Get a 660 or a 670 if Nvidia is a must. Otherwise the 7870 is found for $220 or less.

    C) I still don't see why SSD is a necessity to some. Is it WAY faster? Yes. Do you need a stationary PC to use 5% less power and boot up 40 seconds faster for $200+ extra? NO IMO.

    2. What's overvolting? Also MSI doesn't come with replacement warranty for accidental damage.

    3. Whats so much better about the extreme4?

    4. Why the distrust of Acer? Is the Asus Monitor a substantial quality increase?

It doesn't just boot faster; it loads games faster as well...especially games like BF3 and Skyrim. I don't find it necessary per se, it's just a great idea to put one in a system such as this. It makes everything much more responsive. Also, a decent SSD doesn't cost $200+. You can get a 128gb model for under $100.

Yes ik an SSD upgrades speeds in games. I almost got one. But I don't want to have to worry about where to install my stuff. Thus to have a big enough SSD, I would need to spend that much.

Samsung makes some super solid hard drives. Can't go wrong with that drive.
  39. So would it be smarter to pick the $50 hard drive and the Samsung 128GB SDD drive, or pick a good 70-90 dollar hard drive and get the 64GB SDD?

The way I look at it, if you get the SSD firt and hold off on a storage drive you don't have to reload windows. That saves a lot of hassle and you end up with a decent size SSD. A month or two down the road you pick up a 1TB storage drive on sale for $65.
  41. The only problem with that solution is that I have 80 GB of music waiting on an external hard drive. But I suppose with something like that I could just keep it on the external hard drive, as it isn't taxing enough to be bottlenecked by the USB conversion.

And if I factor out the HDD, my build comes in nicely under 1500 dollars. Sweet.

    1. What criteria makes for a better case? I still don't get it. Is this a good case?

    2. What's overvolting? Also MSI doesn't come with replacement warranty for accidental damage.

    3. Whats so much better about the extreme4?

    4. Why the distrust of Acer? Is the Asus Monitor a substantial quality increase?

1: i suggested the 302 not the 300 illusion. for me, i look for usability, features like usb3, build quality, and cabling room. the 302 is a 300 but with better cabling and usb3

2: overvolting is increasing the voltage supplied to the video card. it helps the video card given all other cards are limited at 1.175v which is not always enough for higher level oc. msi will replace the card if its faulty or if something broke. they wont warrant anything such as frying your Chip. no one does really

3: because its z77 so you get a couple more features and that the board has a better overall power delivery design

4: im using a asus monitor at the moment. i distrust acer given my laptop from them keeps getting over 100c even though i have a level of cooling placed on it and that cleaning it didnt help

I would want at least half a TB. I understand how good they are, I just can't quite stomach paying that much for them now when a 1TB is found for <$60 at times. My next desktop will use SSD, that just won't be for at least 5 years. By then they will half taken over and be far cheaper.

In the past 5 - 6 months Iv'e seen that particular SSD go form $250 to as cheap as $169.99 on sale so hopefully it will drop to somewhere near $125 by Christmas.
