I have a phenom x4 980 @ 4.2Ghz and I know that It would be a slight bottleneck in some games that I play.

Iv'e played Crysis 2 on 1920x1080 and With dx11 enabled It seemed to be quite laggy and the frame rate was never consistent and my gpu usage was high so I blamed it on my cpu.

When I tryed it on my Tv at a resolution of 1360x768 the gpu usage was at around 70% yet it couldn't hold 60fps, while monitoring my cpu usage with hwinfo64 it showed that each core was being used from 60-80 % depending on the map. So my question is, is there really a cpu bottleneck or can it be something else?? :heink:

I'm gonna upgrade to an i5 3570k when I get the money.

yes I know but like I said my cpu usage didn't even pass 80% and this only applies to Crysis 2 running DX11 with Dx9 the game runs perfect maxed out.

Edit: Since my cpu isn't being fully used there has to be another explanation, bad architecture?

Thank you! :)
I don't think his GPU maxed out, a GTX 670 is an high end card. It should hold more than 60 fps at 1360x768. Maybe there is something wrong with his gpu. Note that his cpu is not that bad either that it would bottleneck it like that.

I guess I'm cpu bottle necked because the same thing happened to my other gtx 670, I had to RMA it due to it overheating.

I dont think its your CPU. I have the same setup(Phenom II X4 980(not overclocked) and a Gigabyte GTX 670), and I have yet to experience lag in any game I play, including Crysis 2 and BF3.

At that resolution CPU is the bottleneck with 80% + load on all cores. At 1080P he is claiming high GPU usage that is what I am referring to as GPU limit!

yes high gpu usage but not all the time, it depends on the game.
