is this a good processor? i was just wondering how it compares to the 2500k, ive look at bench marks but i was wondering real human opinions, and does it make a difference that it is clocked at 2.66 GHz?
Barring overclocking, the i5 is superior to the i7 in every way. That said, you can get the i7 for quite a bit less - I'm seeing some on ebay marked at $150 and $130ish. I can't really comment on the value of either when you factor in overclocking; I know you'll easily hit 4+ GHz on the i5, but I'm not so sure what the i7 would typically reach (or how that'd scale).
HEY! My 930 serves me well every day with a GTX 570. I have had it for three years and really don't think I'll be upgrading to Ivy Bridge. I'll upgrade to the "Tock" after Ivy.
Not to say that the i5 Sandy or Ivy isn't a better CPU, because they are. I'm just saying the i7-9xx series shouldn't be considered OLD just yet.

the i7 9xx series are OLD, but they still perform good enough.

I know, I have a 920. And it is old, no question. I agree though it performs quite adequately.
