OK so this is real simple I am going to be buying a card very soon... And i have decided after many forums to stick with nvidia

My choices are the 670 and 680 how much of a performance difference is the 680 then the 670?

also please give a few models you would recommend... and does anyone know when the borderlands deal ends?

Thanks for the help!

Well, here's a great overclocker. I wouldn't bother with a gtx 680. You can get similar performance (sometimes better) out of a gtx 670. This particular version comes with borderlands 2; if you order right now, you can get a 10% discount with promo code.

OK i see what you mean... are there any others that are faster becasue i have 490 for a card (which i would save up a little longer for the 680 if i were to buy it) and i was just wondering if there was a gtx 670 lighting eddition or something?

If I were you, I'd save the cash and grab a SSD if you don't already have one.

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 OC

Actually, the 7970 is going for the same price as a gtx 670. It's yet even faster than a gtx 680.

Just keep in mind the 7970 sadly doesn't come with a copy of Borderlands 2.

More gtx 670 recommendations...

The MSI is faster than a gtx 680 straight out of the box. It also has a unlocked voltage; this allows you to push it farther.

My vote goes to the HD 7970. Beast of a card for the price.

it depends.

GTX670 vs GTX680 ----> the GTX680 wins, no doubt about it, and if you have the money i say you go for it but make sure you get one with a really good cooler the hell out of it so it can beat by a lot more the GTX670.

Another card to consider is the 7970 which clock vs clock is the FASTEST GPU in the world, a 7970 Lighting can reach ~1250-1500 on the core, that will make that card INSANELY FAST.

7970 is already faster than a gtx 670 out of the box. You can easily overclock them even farther.

Here's a GHz edition with a strong custom cooler...

The 7970 is better for that because of the higher memory bandwidth

Problem solved. If you want to save money, wait around for it to become available on NCIX for $415.

Looks good! Forgot about that model; excellent choice.

Your CPU will handle it no problem. The only game you'll have a noticeable performance decrease in is maybe Skyrim. The FX processors are notorious for not performing as well in single threaded apps (compared to an i5). You should be fine though. Your GPU will pick up the slack.

also what do you guys think about the shown peroformance on the 7970 and the performance with my fx-8120? i feel like its going to be like 20% less fps

buddy, i STRONGLY recommend you to disable cores 1,3,5 and 7. that will increase your performance in CPU dependent games because it will let each core to fully use the L3 cache in each module instead of sharing it.

Just make sure you don't disable cores 1,2,3 and 4 because the result will be the same.

Short story: disable 1 core per module.

oh ok i see what you mean... so i should disable those 4 cores so the 4 cores available get all the avaiable cache and they work harder? thanks i never thought of that

also should i only disable them when i play games?

and i have to go to bed(highschool) but tommarow i will have $490 and if that card is in stock i will buy... i will keep the thread open until its completely installed, and thank you guys SOOO much this far

the only concern i have left is the adaptive vsync(this is the only thing that makes me still want to buy the 680 or 670) what do you guys think i have a 60hz monitor is regular vsync fine?
