Hey everyone, I was referred here by a friend that said you were all very knowledgeable. I'm just looking for some input about the compatibility of my system (and to make sure there aren't any other glaring flaws, like the case being too small, etc.). If you have any good recommendations, that's appreciated as well. I'm computer-less at the moment, so it doesn't need to be perfect - I just need to be connected! Thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

All of the parts you selected will work fine together. Although you can get "connected" for a lot less... what are your intended uses?

Things I would suggest:
1: The GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 is less than $10 more and will double your PCI slots. Also adds double the bandwidth if you add a second GPU later(16x16 vs x16/8x8)

2. Sound card isn't really necessary... Onboard sound has come a long way

3. PSU you selected is awesome, but you can save a lot of money here without any negative effects. 80 bronze IMHO is a much better value. Rosewill (newegg brand) makes a nice budget 750W 80 plus bronze.

4. AMD 7870 is slightly faster on average than the GTX 570 for the roughly the same price

For a lot less you could do LIGHTYEARS better. The 570 is outdated, and motherboard sound is good enough that you don't need a sound card as stated.

Check out my $1000 build here:

You get a WAY better CPU, a WAY better GPU (BY FAR) a SSD, plus a PSU that is cheaper but performs just as well. You'll have $200 for the peripherals. I suggest this money to save money and get equivalent quality:

Those both seem like good suggestions. Without much prior knowledge it'd be good to get some extra input from others just to see if some of the suggestions line up. It looks like increasing the Graphics card is one of the main suggestions - I'd be willing to go past the 670, but I'd prefer it to be a reasonable price.

Well price wise my build is almost the same price as your build but performs much much better. The 670 is good but the 7950 is just as good. Check these benchmarks out:

660 Ti OC vs 670 OC vs 7950 OC

The 7950 matches up to the 670 for $100 less. It's a solid card and although you probably have an Nvidia bias, I'm assuming, the benchmarks just don't lie.
