Monitor hmdi help?

Hello, my freind let me borrow his monitor until i get one (i just built this pc yesturday) and it had all of the cable (power, hmdi). I plugged all of the cables in and booted up, all was good until i reached the desktop. The edges are off the screen, i cant see the taskbar even, i have tried changing the resolution, changing displays.
I have a gtx 560ti hooked up with the hmdi plugged into it. Please help!

Check the monitor's settings if it has a built in menu. Sometimes monitors have an over-scan setting for when the opposite happens (aka the image is too small) and it might be turned on.

You might try using the DVI cable instead. A digital output feeding a digital monitor shouldn't overscan. But don't plug in both.
