What should I do? I have a sum of money put towards upgrading my computer, but I cannot yet afford the i5. However I can afford the AMD Radon HD 7770. Should I buy the GPU first or the CPU? (I am running a Core 2 Quad 2.4GHZ at the moment.)

you should go ahead and get the hd 7770

But my brother told me, for maximum performance I will want the i5. (Or i7 but I'm sticking with i5.)

it should be fine for now
most games still recommend having a core 2 quad 2.4 to max out there games so you should be fine!

My rig at the moment is Core 2 quad 2.4 ghz, 8gb 1300mhz RAM ddr3, AMD Radeon HD 6670 with a normal fan cooling system.
