Hi, i would like to upgrade my computer, it will cost around £300 to do so. The parts i want to swap out are:

Core 2 Duo e7500 3ghz - Core 2 Quad QX9650 or similar. £125
Nvidia geforce 9400gt - AMD Radeon 6950 1gb GDDR5. Around £125.
Some crap winpower 450w - PowerCool 700watt modualr 80plus.

Do you think these upgrades are a good idea?, and will i be able to play the latest games with it?

Cheers

it will play the latest game yes, im in australia and i find the decent core 2 quads second hand like you want cost similar amounts to brand new i5's, and that is just crazy! yeah in your case i may save a few bucks on a motherboard and ram but those parts are cheap anyways. i just dont see the point of paying top dollar for a four year old cpu on a dead socket (775) that will run slower (in games) more than likely than a current gen i3

Going for a core 2 quad isn't a great idea. Sure you can keep your motherboard and your ram and all that stuff, but the LGA 775 is dead. You could get an i3 for the cheaper and that would be much better. Or amd which has cheaper options. And your gpu all depends on what games, resolution, etc.

Hi, thanks for replying!

I only need the computer for gaming, i don't use video editors or heavy duty programs. I searched google for "i3 against core 2 quad gaming", and most of the results said the core 2 quad would be faster as games don't use the i3's hyperthreading. Also i need to play at 1080p and good/best setiings. The games i will play are battlefield 3, simulation games, gta 4/5. I think the core 2 quad @3.0ghz would be faster.

Also, do you think the 6950 would be enough for these games?

Thanks.
